What suits your body?

Finding the perfect wedding dress to suit your body type is easy when you know what you’re looking for! Discover the silhouette that suits your personal style and aesthetic whilst also achieving the much-wanted hourglass figure. Most brides come in looking for dresses that disguise their bum, boobs, arms and tummy. Instead of getting a dress that highlights these here are some tips to help make you feel more secure on your big day and know that you’re not alone with your feelings.

Straight/rectangle body type

If you have a straight body type and your shoulder, hips and waist are generally the same width, it’s important to enhance your waistline. Wedding dresses with full skirts such as a ball gown or an A line dress can help give the illusion that your hips are wider to add a more feminine shape. When looking for dress your main goal is to make a v shape with your body so you could add a crystal belt or a simple ribbon to make it more figure hugging and draw the attention to your waist.

Pear shape

Brides with a pear shape body tend to have hips that are wider than their bust and a nice defined waistline. If your goal is to balance your body proportions then an A line and ballroom gown is your go-to as they mask your hips and give more focus on your chest and shoulders. Wide sleeves are another way to balance your body out so why not try some sleeves! If you are a bride that may want to flaunt their hips and highlight them a mermaid dress or a fit and flare dress.

Inverted triangle

This body type is when your shoulders and upper body are bigger than the lower part. The objective is to balance the proportions and maybe add some curves to the look. When looking for the dress to compliment your body, avoiding strapless or off the shoulder dresses will benefit as they will highlight your shoulders. Instead, a v-shaped, or sweetheart neckline will help to bring more focus to your chest and elongate your body. Look for dresses with lots of detail or sparkle at the waist as they will veer the eye downwards to the lower half of your body. The best dresses include mermaid dress, ball gown and Aline dress.

Small and full chested

If you are a large chested bride and are wanting something comfortable and flattering but also supported then wedding dresses with straps and sleeves are a good option. It’s important to find a dress with a great internal structure, so a bra is not needed to be worn with your dress. A sweetheart or scoop neckline would complement your body but also not make your chest the focus of the dress. If you have a larger chest but are slim through the waist and want to highlight your natural curves, a mermaid or fit-and-flare would do wonders for you. Smaller chested brides may want to make their boobs seem larger so could opt for a plunge neckline that adds a touch of chic and draw attention to the chest.

Apple

An apple body shape typically means that you have slim legs with equal hips and chest but not as much definition on your waist. You may have an apple body type and want to create curves or wish to mask your belly, either way a structured bodice and a flared skirt is a good style to look at as it makes a defined waistline and hide the stomach. If you want the focus more on your upper half, an off the shoulder dress or low v neckline helps to create a balanced look.
